Wanda, a landscape designer currently working at the Getty Museum and wrote TL wellness this letter

Dear Chiyan
Happy Holidays to you and your family.  I just wanted to let you know what a positive impact you have made in my life since I met you. I will forever be grateful for introducing me to qigong practice which has really been beneficial in making my chronic neck and shoulder pain a thing of the past.  I believe practicing yoga and working on my body alignment the past three years has slowly helped reduce my neck and shoulder pain which I have lived with for over 15 years. But adding your qigong practice to my routine these past 6 months REALLY made such a remarkable difference.  I can feel blood and energy flowing in my neck and shoulders when I practice which have been blocked for so long I didn’t even realize it.

Thank you so much

Wanda

Chiyan's comment: You did it! Wanda. With your busy schedule you have taken on Taoist Light Qigong and the result has been shown. Thank you for sharing.

Qigong cleansing process- a good thing to happen

When a student starts to practice Taoist Light Qigong, he or she can experience increased energy-level and general wellness in the beginning, but after a short while if it is needed, one may experience any of the following detox signs: (1) headache/cough; (2) tiredness/drowsiness; (3) nausea/diarrhea; (4) ache/pain in old injury and surgery areas; and (5) rash/skin break-outs, etc.

For a person who is super healthy and has a system that is clean, they will not go through any of these symptoms. However, there will be always some people who experience this or that uncomfortable feeling when one goes deeper into the Qigong practice.

In one way, experiencing these detoxification signs means one is practicing correctly and Qigong is working. There is a saying in Qigong: "Qi Gong Bing Zao. (Qi is conquering the illness origins). For example if you drive a car but do not encounter any blocked roads, you feel everything is fine. But when you start to practice Qigong, the Qi will naturally go through all the channels in your body, so the areas that were blocked would be shown to you. Qigong cannot cause sickness if you follow the instructions correctly, but it can reveal previous illness. For example, if a person has an old injury or surgery where it did not heal well, one might feel some pain/sharp pain at times when Qi is trying to move through it.... It is like clearing rocks from the middle of the road——it surely takes some energy and work. But afterwards, the weak areas can be completely healed and the Qi flows everywhere smoothly, which will bring on an optimal health condition.  Only after we clear out the unwanted/illness/unwholesome Qi, the new/healthy/clean Qi can flow through. Please read the following questions for your reference:

1. When can detox start?

Anywhere between the first week to the first three months when a student practices Qigong on his or her own, or after the second or the third private healing session. *Private healing session means receiving an external Qi healing from a certified Taoist Light Qigong healer.

2. How long does detox last?

Usually from a couple of days to a couple of weeks, depending on individual's level of needed detoxification.

3. What shall one do with it?

It is better not to panic and simply let it be while continuing the Qigong practice. Some students will feel worse and become frightened, and so they will stop the practice; but this is unfortunate since the toxins/illness Qi will stay in the body. Please remember the illness Qi needs to come out of the system so we can regain a healthy condition. Trust this process, the real/complete healing can "feel worse before feeling better," since you are digging out the root of the health problems——it is like "energetic surgery." But if the detox is too intense, you may practice once in every other day to slow it down or call Chiyan for private healing sessions for extra support.

Having a private Qigong healing session will help you to determine what is really going on inside your body, help your Qi to move through the blockages easier, and shorten the detox process so that you will feel better sooner.

4. How can I tell whether it is a normal detox rather than sickness?

Detox is when you practice Qigong then afterwards it happens, but you will feel much better, energetic and healthier after the process since your practice has gone to another level; your body is purified.

Detox is when only you have these symptoms (sometimes feeling like a cold) but people around you are well.

Detox is when the usual medication does not help that much, since the toxins in your body need to come out naturally through Qigong practice.

5. Do I need to see a doctor?

Mostly not, since if you keep practicing, these all shall pass. Remember that detox means you are not sick, you are just clearing out the illness Qi previously stored in your body.

You will need to see a doctor if you have bleeding stools or bleeding urine, which are also detox signs but these indicate some severe health problems such as growths/cysts that are developing inside of your lower body. So you need to pay attention especially if you did not know there was anything wrong.

6. Who might detox the most?

These include people who were/are smokers, drug/alcohol abusers; those who are taking/took a lot of medication; those with chronic indigestion problems, junk food habits, severe old injuries and surgeries; those who worked/work in toxic environments (such as constructors, painters, chemical plant workers, etc.); those who were victims of physical and sexual abuse (the body and Qi can lock everything in, including toxins, as a form of self-protection); or people under long-term stress such as working passing mid-night.

Please remember that experiencing any of the above detox signs is actually a good thing, for your body is working hard to get rid of the illness Qi. Please treat your body as if it were is going through surgery, so have as much rest as you can, eat very healthy and clean food, drink a lot of liquids, and take warm Epsom salt bath.

If we don't take care of ourselves now, we will have to let the doctors to take care of us later; If we do not allow the Qi to remove the illness blockages as a "Qi operation," eventually we might need a real medical procedure later. So this cleansing process can save one from experiencing much worse pain/hassle later. You will feel so much cleaner and healthier with much more energy afterwards.

Taoist Light Instrutor/Healer Training (5)

We continued studying physical healing, particularly working on kidney Qi (the father Qi of prenatal Energy and our Qi reservoir to keep us grounded and centered) and spleen Qi (the mother Qi of post-natal energy to transform food into healthy Qi and nutrients).

The topics covered were:

1. How to build up kidney Qi

2. How to cleanse the excessive heat in the head and emotional body

3. How to use food therapy to increase spleen function besides Qigong practice

4. How to detect Qi blockages in a client's body and remove them

5. General tongue diagnosis to confirm the Qi reading

6. Taoist esoteric teaching on the simplest yet most powerful way of external Qi healing for others

7. How to protect the healer's own Qi while working with clients whose energy might be very ill and toxic or even contagious

The reasons why Taoist Light Qigong is so effective are:

1. Follow naturalness, the Tao (the true way)

2. Qi/energy purification (letting go of illness Qi)

We understand that a diamond truly shines because the unnecessary parts were chipped away by purposeful intention.

This new year resolution is that we focus on our own well-being and skillfully master the gentle yet effective and powerful healing technique with wisdom to help others to heal as well.

My connections to Qigong (8)

I continued with Taoist Light Qigong after Master Zhou corrected me from my off-track practice. Things flowed smoothly again. In the college dorm, I shared a bunk bed with a classmate who slept on the top, and her score kept getting better even though I hardly ever saw her study. Years later, we met again in the U.S. and looked back over our experience in college. I joked that she got my good Qi since she was above me, and that's why she did so well with her studying. She joked that she held an awful lot of responsibility for my Qigong practice, because if she moved in her bed, it would have disturbed my practice, and my Qi would go off-track again. We all laughed about how things eventually worked out for both of us.

Then one day my mom called me and shared with me that Master Zhou was going to formally train healers, and asked if I was interested. Over the years, mom had learned acupuncture, herbal medicine, acupressure, and ear diagnosis; and none of these really sparked my interest, but to learn external Qi healing for others resonated with my heart, especially after I had amazing personal healing experiences with the sessions I received from Master Zhou, my mom, and dad over the years and knowing how exceptional and effective such sessions could be.

I quickly bought a train ticket from Nanjing to Lanzhou, but because time was short, I could not get a seat on the train. So I stood for hours next to a stinky bathroom rolling away to the West till finally someone got off and I had a seat. I sat on an old hard seat for a total of 36 hours to finally arrive in Lanzhou, Gansu province. That certainly was a tedious and hard trip, but it was worthwhile.

The Taoist Light retreat center was newly built. It followed the Fengshui eight-trigram principle to maintain the energy flow and balance. My brother arrived there too with his new girlfriend, and we could all live in the center. In the daytime, Master Zhou gave public lectures on Qigong and Zuchang healing (created group Qi/Energy field for healing). They rented the auditorium of Lanzhou University which could hold thousands of people. I was so grateful that Master always kept a seat front and center for me, so a young female college student was sitting with all the VIP men. Afterwards, when Master Zhou and his wife introduced me to one of them, who was the vice governor of Lanzhou, I saw his energy was so warm, clear yet powerful, and I was confident to say he was a good man as well as a good politician. It is amazing how open and supportive he was of Qigong. Over the years, he helped Taoist Light Qigong to spread and grow in Lanzhou.

In the evening, Master Zhou gave us (his disciples) short talks and teachings. There were about a dozen people including mom, dad, my brother, and myself. Some teachings took me years to understand fully. Master Zhou saw me for a private session too, and he said with a smile: "You are falling in love." My face blushed: At that time in China, dating was a very serious thing, usually a young couple would have dated for long time before they were ready to announce it to their family/friends. He also taught me how to protect my own Qi when entering into a serious, intimate relationship.

In the retreat center, I experienced again how powerful Taoist Light Qigong was. Mom healed blind people, dad healed women with breast cysts, all in a few sessions. Master Zhou organized eight groups to go to remote villages to help heal people who did not have enough food to eat, much less be able to afford any medical expenses. My father was the leader of these groups, and he went to various places with no public transportation and helped people to heal themselves. He deeply bounded with these people who were so grateful after they regained their health.

We often heard people talking about the placebo healing effect. But what happened in Taoist Light Qigong retreat center was natural and real. Qi is just like air, we cannot see it, but we know it exists and it is essential for keeping us alive. I truly believe there are natural powers we need to learn how to use well, for healing of ourselves and others. Most of all, master Zhou's voice always whispers my ears: Remember, the level of your healing power goes with your virtues...
