The Qi and Light in Taoist Light Qigong
If we compare the physical body to a house, Qi can be understood as the electricity flowing through the wiring, while Light is like the illumination that fills the house.
When there is sufficient electricity and it flows smoothly throughout the entire house, the house becomes illuminated. The light shines from within outward, so that even from outside, one can see that the house is filled with light.
In the same way, when a cultivator practices correctly, consistently, and persistently, the internal “wiring” is gradually repaired and strengthened. The physical systems and organs function more harmoniously, blockages begin to clear, and the person's Qi gradually becomes fuller, smoother, and more stable.
What can happen next?
The body can gradually become filled with Qi and Light.
For an experienced Qigong cultivator who has developed transcendental abilities, Qi and Light can be perceived within oneself or around another person, especially around the head.
The quality and fullness of Qi and Light reflect cultivation level. Over time, an experienced cultivator can distinguish whether Qi appears chaotic or settled, blocked or flowing, deficient or abundant, and whether the Light appears clear, strong, or murky.
However, Qigong cultivation is not ultimately about seeing “visible light.”
What matters much more is whether cultivation brings greater peace, harmony, clarity, healing, and balance to oneself and to others.
That is the deeper meaning of Light.
In the polarized human realm, this movement toward peace and harmony is an expression of the Tao—the Way.
