Tao Te Ching - 58
Tao Te Ching - 58
When the government is lenient,
People are honest.
When the government is harsh,
People are deceitful.
Misery is what happiness rests upon.
Happiness is what misery lurks beneath.
Who knows where it goes?
There is no standard,
Right can become wrong,
Good can become evil,
People's delusions last long.
Therefore the master is upright but not stiff,
Sharp but does not pierce,
Forthright but does not offend,
Radiant but does not dazzle.
